For over thirty-five years, Anders Petersen’s photo lab has been a hub for the type of photography that can be called subjective documentary (he himself is opposed to categorization). This book shares some of Petersen’s thoughts on why he take photographs, and an insight into how he works in an analog proces. The book also present a collection of Anders Petersen’s work.
The lab has been a base for many photographers who worked there as assistants or as a place to work and to meet other colleagues in creative discussions. They talk about their view of the lab and Petersen’s work. At a time when the concept of photography is about to be regarded as a temporary distraction without aim or meaning, a kind of resistance takes place down in the ancient cellar rooms in Gamla Stan in Stockholm. Anders Petersen never ceases to regard the static black and white photographic image as something important, something one is forced to deal with.
